I told my husband that all I wanted for my
birthday
was to get away for a few days, but I didn't want to travel too far.
We ended up just 2.5 hours away in one of my favorite places,
Chattanooga, Tennessee. It is the beginning of the
fall season
and this week is fall break for many area schools so there were not
many rooms available. My husband booked a hotel in a part of town with
which we are not too familiar so we were not sure what to expect. The
room rate seemed less expensive than we had expected for a full kitchen
and a separate
living room area with an extra
TV in addition to a
bedroom
with two full size beds. However over 60% of the people who have
stayed there gave the hotel a 5 star rating so we decided to chance it.
I'm glad we did.

Homewood Suites by Hilton
When I walked into our hotel room at the
Homewood Suites by Hilton, I was pleasantly surprised. The room was neat and clean. When I travel, I don't really care about slight signs of wear and tear as long as the room is clean. This room had been well kept. I didn't see any signs of wear or any signs of neglect anywhere. I wondered if we might be staying in a newer section but when we checked, we were told that the hotel had been there at least 30 years with no additions to the building. However, they had updated the rooms about 4 years ago. Even so, the rooms looked very nice after 4 years of use.

My first impression did not disappoint. The living room was inviting. We enjoyed a
loveseat and a chair. My husband said the chair was comfortable. The loveseat was not particularly comfortable but it wasn't really uncomfortable either. We discovered that it was a
sleeper sofa. The
footstool pulls out from under the little table. The curtains had a heavy duty liner behind the shears for privacy and to block out light.

The
dishwasher looked like it had never been used.

The little specks in the picture of the silverware drawer is not dirt. I rubbed on them and found that they are just part of the drawer, maybe little specks of dried paint or something. I'm super picky about
cutlery but I had no problem using these. There were two other drawers filled with cooking utensils and serving spoons.

The cabinet under the sink contained a small
trash can. It was clean. No trace of unwanted guests here.

The beds were clean with no trace of bed bugs. The mattresses were some of the most comfortable I've ever slept on (but I forgot to check for the brand). The pillows were nice too. The only complaint, if you want to call it a complaint, is that the beds were small. They were supposed to be two double beds. These were obviously larger than single beds but two small for us. I didn't measure the width of the mattresses but they might have seemed small because we are used to our king sized bed at home.

We had a second TV in the bedroom. We were impressed that there were two closets. We each had our own.

This is the smaller closet. The bags on the floor belong to us. It was a small closet but spacious enough for all of my husbands weekend bags.

The closet on the other side of the room was larger. Inside this close was a luggage rack and a bag which contained two extra
blankets and two extra sets of sheets. There was also an iron and a full sized
ironing board (not pictured).

The bathroom was supplied with all the expected toiletries.

There were plenty of
towels and the entire bathroom was super clean.

There was no impressive mountain view or river view from this particular hotel but it was one of the nicest we've ever stayed in. We did have a great view of the
pool. We didn't go down there but it looked like a nice place to relax.

I never plan to work out in a gym when I'm vacationing, but if you must hit the gym, this hotel had one. It was very small, but they had one.

Our stay included a free breakfast every morning. The kitchen downstairs was as well kept as the one in our room. I didn't go downstairs to check out the food or get pictures but my husband went down to grab a few things to bring back to our room. He brought back blueberry bagels, yogurt, fruit, and some kind of amazing toast. I would almost travel the 2.5 hours back up there just to get that toast.

The dining area was spacious. All the furniture looked new.

There was a TV and a fireplace in the dining area. The TV could have been a little bigger but it was still large enough and mounted high enough over the fire place so that everyone in the room could see it.

The fireplace was a little small too, but had it been cold enough for them to light it, I'm sure it would have added a warm, cozy feel to the room. It might be October, but it was 90 degrees outside.

Just inside the main door and to the right was this nice "living room" type area. Again, it was clean and inviting.
