All of us enjoy and need affirmation but we need to be careful from where we receive it.
You will either live for affirmation or you will live from affirmation.
The following are my Bible study notes based on my pastor's sermon on the topic of "Affirmation." You are invited to watch, listen, and worship with us here.
Affirmation
Jesus was fully God but He was also fully man. He was fully human so even though He never sinned, He received affirmation from His Father, God.
When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” - Luke 3:21-22*God gave Jesus His acceptance and His affirmation.
Jesus was well loved and He loved well.
*God gave Jesus His approval.
God was pleased with Jesus and He was pleased IN Jesus.
While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” - Matthew 17:5*God affirmed Jesus again just before He went to the cross.
From where do you get your affirmation? If you are getting it or trying to get your affirmation from the world, you'll go crazy.
God says to you:
1. I accept you.
Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. - John 1:122. I love you.
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. - 1 John 3:1
So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith. - Galatians 3:26
3. I approve of you.
Since you are precious and honored in my sight,
and because I love you,
I will give people in exchange for you,
nations in exchange for your life. - Isaiah 43:4
