How to Receive Jesus
If you clicked on the "How to Receive Jesus" tab, then you probably have questions about how to be "saved." You likely want to know more about how to receive Jesus and make Him Lord of your life.
The Bible tells us in John 3:16: For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
God so loved the world . . . God so loves YOU. He loves you just as you are, no matter what you've done, He loves you. He loves everyone, not just a few people, but everyone.
Everyone includes me too and like you, I'm a sinner. We are all sinners. We have sinned, we sin, and we will continue to sin because we are imperfect.
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. - Romans 3:23
As it is written, there is none righteous, not even one. - Romans 3:10
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned. - Romans 5:12
The Bible tells us that the wages of sin is death. God loves everyone, but not everyone will spend eternity with Him in Heaven. The price for sin without salvation through Jesus is eternal death.
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. - Romans 6:23
So there is good news for us! The result of sin is death but the free gift of God is eternal life. This free gift is Jesus. God loves us so much that He sent Jesus to die for us even though we are sinful.
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. - Romans 5:8
So how can you receive this gift? The Bible tells us to confess our sin and believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead.
That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. - Romans 10:9-10
Being a good person is not enough. We cannot be saved just because we are "good" and do a lot of good things. We can only be saved through the grace of God, through Jesus Christ.
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. - Ephesians 2:8-9
I hope you will make the choice to receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior. You can do that by praying right now, right where you are, just as you are, to receive the gift of salvation - confess your sin and believe in your heart that God sent Jesus to die as the ultimate sacrifice for our sin and that God raised Jesus from the dead.
For whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved. - Romans 10:13 :13
Romans 10:13 doesn't say whoever gets his or her life in order will be saved. It doesn't say whoever is good or whoever goes to church, or whoever ______________________ (insert any other reason to think you are not good enough for Jesus.) Romans 10:13 tells us that whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
Will you call on the name of the Lord right now? Your prayer should come straight from the depths of your own heart but if you've never prayed before, you might not be sure about how to pray. You can pray something like this:
Dear God, I confess that I am a sinner and I am sorry. I need a Savior. I know I cannot save myself. I believe by faith that Jesus, your Son, died on the cross. I believe He arose from the grave. I turn from my sin. I ask You, Lord Jesus, to forgive my sin and come into my heart. I trust You as my Savior and I receive you as my Lord. Thank you for saving me. Amen
If you just called on the Lord and received the gift of eternal life, then you might wonder, "What now?"
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. - Romans 10:17
The next step is to get to know the Lord. The best way to get to know the heart of God is to spend time in His Word. Spend time with the Lord by reading and studying the Bible. Read it. Study it. Meditate on it. Start trying to memorize scripture verses. Ask the Lord to help you find a Bible teaching church to attend. Surround yourself with other believers.
Did you notice that the prayer above mentioned "turning from your sin?" This is called repentance. If you now have Jesus in your heart, you will need to turn from your sin and live a new life in Christ. This does not mean that you will never sin again, but you will now desire to live a life that honors God. We will still sin because we are imperfect humans, but when we sin, we can ask God to forgive us. Resolve every day to be better than the day before. Surrounding yourself with other Christians in a Bible teaching church will provide fellowship and accountability as you begin your new joyful journey.
Enjoy your new life in Christ Jesus.
Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 5:1
Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. - Romans 8:1
For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. - Romans 8:38-39
You are a new believer. Nothing can separate you from the love of God.
